 Optional Homework

  • You will sometimes observe your classmates’ presentations or Monica’s teaching methods and think, “That’s a good idea. . . .I want to try that in my own presentations/teaching.” You can maximize your chances of remembering teaching ideas you want to imitate/adapt by occasionally using your 15-minutes-per-day homework time to write a brief reflection on teaching ideas you’ve gotten from your classmate(s)/Monica’s teaching/presentations in this “What I need to remember and work on” forum. Write a) why you think their idea is worth imitating/adapting, and b) a detailed description of how you could apply their idea to the specific characteristics of your own current or probable future teaching/presentation contexts.
  • Prepare for your 180D presentations
  • Practice explaining your research topic or major (and why it matters!) in a way that people who know nothing about your field will find interesting, convincing, and easy to understand
  • Practice responding to common job interview questions for academic and/or industry jobs. (You can find common job interview questions by Googling searches like “common [your field] [academic OR industry] job interview questions.”)
